Prologue: No One Mourns the Wicked
Glinda is riding in her custom carriage into Winkie country. She looks over at the dark blue landscape and sighs at the memories flooding her mind.
It had been two years since Elphaba’s death and the Wizard's departure. She had been given the role of helping the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion run Oz. If she was honest, she would say she was running things instead. The Scarecrow was always off in some library or whatever. The Tin Man always flirted with her and anyone of the female gender. Lastly, the Lion always found his way back to the forest.
Glinda finally got them all together so she could have a good break. She immediately went to book a trip to Winkie Country in secret. She wanted to see the grave site of her dear friend again. She had set it up soon after her death and wished to pay her respects. It felt as if it was only yesterday that she meet the green girl at Shiz and slowly became close friends.
The carriage stopped outside the castle and Glinda was helped out by her driver, A munchkin named Jao. Jao held out his hand helping her out of the carriage.
“Welcome back to Winkie Country Miss. Glinda” said Jao.
“Thank you, Jao. You know the drill” said Glinda stepping onto the dark blue landscape. She was in a more casual outfit. Glinda wore a burgundy dress with long poofy sleeves and a sweetheart neck. Her accessories included burgundy heels, a black cape and her shiz pin. She has her hair pinned up with butterfly pins in an updo with pieces of hair framing her face.
“You have business to attend to. I am to stay here with the horses until you are done. I can do some reading while waiting and we are not to discuss your business at all. We never went to Winkie country ” said Jao.
“Thank you. I will be back in a bit. ” Said Glinda starting to walk toward the gardens. She carried a bouquet of pink roses and poppies.
“Be safe Miss. Glinda” called out Jao as Glinda walked into the gardens.
Glinda walks a familiar path toward the garden’s outer walls. Since Fiyero’s death, the Winkie Royal line was cut and they had moved to other lands following Elphaba’s takeover of the land. Glinda gets to a simple gravestone surrounded by blue roses. Glinda stops short seeing fresh flowers laid on the grave.
““Wait someone else has been here.” She said getting her knees and looking at the flowers. The flowers were beautiful White lilies tied with green ribbons. They look as if they have been there for some time.
“Maybe it was some kid. Kids don’t see wickedness like adults. ” Said Glinda placing her flowers next to the lilies and taking a deep breath.
“Hello Elphie. It has been a while. I am sorry for not coming sooner. Things have been quite busy. I miss you every day Elphie. You made being a witch look so easy. I hope wherever you are. You are free. I will say it is a surprise to see other flowers here. I hope they have been respectful to you. Well, I got you poppies and roses today. They are quite beautiful this year. I am doing the best I can. Those boys are making it harder especially the scarecrow. You would think someone with a PhD would be better at leading than the wizard but no. He is always off doing something else. I have a theory that he has a secret love he is telling no one else but you didn’t hear that from me. I’m. Sorry, I’m rambling again. I guess I don’t have many friends to talk to anymore. I’m a bit afraid to get close to anyone again. Maybe one day but not now. ” Said Glinda crying slightly. She sat there quietly taking the time to reflect. She rarely had time for herself and with her closest friend, she felt like her true self again.
After a while, Glinda sighs standing back up and dusting herself Causing her pin to fall off. She picked up the pin seeing the shiz emblem. She looks over at the grave and back to the pin.
“Maybe I should use my good at the one place where you were happiest. I promise you Elphie. I will make you proud. Goodbye for now old friend. I promise to be back” said Glinda pining the pin and then using her wand to enchant the flowers. It is a similar enchantment to make them last longer. She blows a simple kiss to the grave and walks away back to her carriage to go back to the emerald city.
Meanwhile in a hidden valley behind the emerald city, a small town formed around animals and people escaping persecution. The town was named the Cove. At a small and moderate house hidden in the mountains on the edge of the city, a young woman yells loudly as she is in labor.
““Where is he? You sent the message right!” Said Elphaba gripping her sheets in her nightgown
“I have Miss Elphaba. He should be here any minute” said a young lioness midwife named Lora giving her a drink of water.
“He better be. This is such a big day” said Elphaba. The two look up hearing the front door open and someone running in. The otter nurse assistant opens the door hearing that and revealing a panting Scarecrow/ Fiyero dressed in an emerald suit.
““I’m here! I’m here! Woah” he said tripping over his straw feet as he tried to rush over.
“Are you alright?” Said the otter trying to help him up.
“I’m alright. I’m alright. What is important is my beautiful wife and our baby” said Fiyero getting up and going to his wife. He kisses her sweetly.
“Thank goodness you are here. Oh, Oz!!!” Said Elphaba gripping his hand.
“Let’s check again Miss Elphaba. See if you are ready ” said Lora checking under the cover ”“oh yes. The baby coming ”
“Finally!” Said Elphaba. Yelling.
“Okay, Now I need you to push dear. She is ready to make an appearance” said Lora.”Push Dear.”
Elphaba pushes as Fiyero coaches her. This has been nine months of anxious waiting for this moment. After quite a few pushes, the baby came into this world crying. Elphaba pants wanting to see her.
“Congrats you two. It is a healthy little girl” said Lora cleaning up and wrapping the baby with the otter's help.
“Is She? ” Said Elphaba panting
Lora smiles and hands over a pale baby wrapped in an emerald green blanket. The baby girl has black hair and yellow eyes like her father.
Elphaba sighed in relief holding her.” hello my sweet baby” said Elphaba
“You did amazing love,” said Fiyero kissing her forehead and looking at his two ladies in awe.
“Thank you. She is beautiful isn’t she” said Elphaba smiling
“She would have been beautiful no matter what,” Fiyero say
““I know. I just was so worried ” said Elphaba.
“Well, no worries now.” Said Fiyero
“Time for the plan to be implemented,” said Elphaba handing her baby to Fiyero
“Are you sure about this love ?” Said Fiyero
“Yes she needs some sense of a normal life and this is what we agreed to.” Said Elphaba firmly.
“Okay, love. What is her name? Have you chosen from your list” said Fiyero kissing his baby's head.
“I think I want to go with your name choice,” said Elphaba smiling
“Really? ” Said Fiyero smiling excited
““Yes after all you will be the one she is connected to,” said Elphaba giggling at his reaction.
“Well then, welcome to the Oz royal family, My precious Odessia Ellowyn. You will make a fine princess” said Fiyero proudly
“ Extra! EXTRA! Read all about it! The Scarecrow has adopted a young orphan girl! We have a new princess! ” Yelled a newsstand man in the emerald city holding out a freshly printed newsletter. Jao stops and grabs one running to Glinda to tell her in her office.
