The Earth Will Turn

Summary:

A series of “What If” One Shots in the My Hero Academia Universe.
I have many ideas, but none of them have enough juice to make them into a full series, so instead of letting the ideas go to waste, here is a collection of snapshots of my quick fic ideas for MHA.
Named for The Earth Will Turn by Dayseeker

Notes:

Chapter Name from Echoes by Pink Floyd

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Echoes

Chapter Text

Today was supposed to be a normal day of class. And Class 1A supposed that, maybe, this WAS their normal, and wasn’t that terrifying. After the USJ, they should have expected more villains to invade their lesson plans, but as the specter of death appeared, nobody was prepared.

Aside from Aizawa Shouta and Nedzu, who had organized the whole thing, of course.

“Is it not cruel to subject the students to a fake villain attack mere weeks after a real attempt on their lives?”

All Might’s desiccated form asked from his desk looking over the battle trial that his colleague was subjecting them to. Aizawa simply smirked as he watched the black-clad figure pick off his students one after another.

“She’s making it easy, she left Jirou and Shoji despite their improved hearing.”

“The world is cruel, they know that more than anyone now. This is a test to see how they react in the scenario of a real threat more than anything else, in a controlled environment.”

The number one hero just looked on in awe as the ninja attacker wrapped up Sato and Kirishima in their binding capture tape without any effort. She was using the same technology as Eraserhead’s capture weapon, only it was integrated into wrapped gloves as opposed to a scarf.

“... Who even is this person you’ve enlisted?”

Aizawa snorted. Yagi stiffened in his seat.

“Oh, that's my new teaching assistant. Trust me, you’ll love them.”

All Might may have been a fearless hero, however, hearing THE Eraserhead laugh? Nope. He’s putting in his resignation. Teaching is not for him.

“Denied Yagi.”

Nedzu just shot the man a knowing look. Yagi just sighed and put his head in his hands.

“Someone who Aizawa ‘loves’? I’m doomed. We’re all doomed.”

Once every student of 1A (in addition to Shinso, who had been stolen from his General Education class somehow) was rounded up into a pile by their assailant, Aizawa stood at the front of the pile, and the ninja cozied up beside him, releasing them from their restraints. As the class got to their feet, they saw the woman in the full light for the first time as opposed to sticking to the shadows as she had been prior. She wore a very simple costume, very close to Eraserhead’s own, with a padded black top, black cargo pants, white capture gloves, and two large mouse-ish ears on top of a hooded mask which obscured her face. Izuku was mostly taking note of the fact she was wearing very very familiar red shoes.

“Well Rat, you did a number on them, despite the fact you were holding back significantly. If you were still a student, I’d expel you.”

The woman laughed out, the first time the students had heard her voice from beginning her assault. It was… oddly familiar?

“Jeez Sho, I wanted to let them have a chance y’know?”

“Wait, this wasn’t a real villain?”

Kirishima asked out loud, partially at Aizawa but mostly just in general.

The woman laughed.

“Nope! I’m StreetRat, or just Rat, Sho’s favorite underground hero! He asked me to help train you guys and well, it seems to have gotten out of hand quickly.”

Bakugo was currently still doubled over in pain from having The Rat steal one of Momo’s metal poles from her clutches and redirecting it directly into his crotch.

“-However I have a ton of suggestions for improvements for all of you-”

The girl whipped out a memopad from some unknown location, where she began tearing out pieces of paper to hand to specific students.

“I took some notes inbetween our skirmishes, so they’re a bit rushed, but I’d be more than happy to talk to you one-on-one, though in some cases I’d like to address some more serious things, like Yaoyorozu, your bookshelf on your back could easily break your spine, I had to go easy on you so you weren't seriously injured in our fight, and Hagakure, please go speak to Power Loader about a better costume, he can get a real one for you, oh and-”

Aizawa put his hand over where the mouth of the girl would be beneath her mask.

“Yeah yeah. Get ready for dealing with her for the rest of the year, if I don’t kill her for annoying me first.”

The woman overexaggerated shock and posed with despair.

“Oh Sho, how could you say such a thing, think of our child!”

“SENSEI HAS A CHILD?!?!?!”

The class almost universally shouted, aside from Bakugo, who was still keeled over in agony. Aizawa was joining him in agony, though it was mostly feigned.

“It’s a cat.”

The woman excitedly pulled up one of UA’s handheld projectors to show the class pictures of a tortoiseshell cat. Izuku noted how the woman seemed to use the wrap of her gloves like tendrils at her command, almost as if she was mimicking a quirk.

“Look at her! Isn’t she just the cutest?”

The girls (including Izuku and Shinso) were cooing over the kitten.

“What’s her name?”

Shinso did his best to hide his excitement, but it was a cat, he’s not a complete heartless monster.

“It’s Seaweed! She’s actually Nem’s cat whose named Sushi’s daughter, she actually has two brothers too, a orange cat named Tuna and a white cat named Rice.”

The woman scrolled through a collection of photos of the cats, as well as Midnight in civilian clothes playing with all of them.

“... Wait all the pictures of Seaweed are with Midnight-sensei, too, is she living with you?”

Mina asked with a smirk. Aizawa sighed and the Rat snickered.

“I’m already regretting making you my teaching partner.”

The Rat simply pulled off one of her wrapped gloves, revealing a scarred hand and a golden ring underneath.

“Life partner too, dummy!”

Mina and Tooru squealed loud enough to make Jirou and Shoji wince. Izuku had already pulled out his notebook to make additions to his knowledge base of Eraserhead, as well as starting a new entry for StreetRat.

“Nedzu I regret my decision, I’ll take anyone else as an assistant.”

“Ms. Joke?”

“Nevermind, I’ll deal with her.”

“But yeah if you insist on hearing everything about Sho’s lovelife-”

Aizawa attempted to cover the Rat’s mouth again, only for her to duck out of the way.

“We live with Yamada and Nemuri, or Present Mic and Midnight.”

Aizawa leveled the rest of the class with a glare as they were ready to devolve into hysterics.

“Okay enough! Let’s discuss your performances at combating StreetRat, nomatter how lackluster they may have been.”

Aizawa levelled a glare at Mineta and Bakugo, who by far fared the worst. Bakugo had finally recovered from his testicular torment, and lunged at StreetRat, who while ducking out of the way of the attack, had her hood snagged and mask pulled off.

The class, including Bakugo, stood still at the sight. The hood pulled back revealed curly green locks, emerald eyes, and a smattering of freckles that had been partially obscured by scar tissue. It looked exactly like

“-’mIzumiMidoriyaandI’mfromapointinthefuturewhereIgotsenttothepastandwentotschoolwiththerestofthemafterI’dalreadygraduatedUAandwonthewarandlostmyquirkand-” (I’m Izumi Midoriya and I’m from a point in the future where I got sent to the past and went to school with the rest of them [Shouta, Nemuri, Hizashi] after I’d already graduated UA [in the past] and won the war and lost my quirk and-)

Aizawa wrapped the woman in her capture scarf to silence her.

“No more spoilers.”

Unfortunately there would be no shortage of chaos from this point on.
