Your Lover Stands in the Moonlight

Summary:

After Lucy's death, Mina has a visitor in the night.

Notes:

Written for femslashfete for the prompt "net." Title from the song "Diese kalte Nacht" by Faun.

Work Text:

Mina wakes in the night to a tapping on the window. Still half-asleep, she stumbles out of bed.

“Mina,” a dear, familiar voice calls sweetly. “Mina, let me in. It’s so cold outside.”

“Lucy,” Mina murmurs. “Lucy, come inside and warm yourself!”

A moment later, and Lucy is standing before her, clad only in a thin white garment. “Mina dearest,” she says warmly, “I have missed you so much!”

Mina feels a distant pang of sorrow, though she cannot remember why. She takes Lucy’s hands. “Why, you are freezing!” She tugs Lucy to an armchair and begins wrapping her in blankets and shawls.

“That is not what I need,” Lucy says, her eyes strangely bright. She stands, letting the blankets fall away. The shape of her body is clear under her white garment. Mina feels herself blush, though she cannot tell why. Something in the way Lucy is standing, perhaps. Lucy has never before been conscious of her beauty, simply blooming like a flower; but now she stands provocatively, looks at Mina under her eyelashes and smiles with her red, red lips.

Mina begins to feel a little dizzy. She does not resist when Lucy takes her by the hand and leads her back to her bed. They lie down together under the covers, quite as good friends might do.

“I will get warm faster this way,” Lucy whispers against Mina’s throat. And then Lucy’s body is over her, Lucy’s dark hair falling down loose to brush Mina’s face and twining around her like the meshes of a net. Lucy’s lips press against her skin, just where the pulse beats. There is something like the prick of a pin in her flesh, but Mina is too glad of Lucy’s presence to take much note of it. (Mina is troubled for a moment, thinking there is something she should remember. But it slips away from her, and there is only Lucy.)
