Chapter Text
6 people are moving into the neighborhood. 3 in each house. Zara doesn’t really know what to think, she’s head of the neighborhood committee, she needs to greet them it’s part of her job. Thought that doesn’t mean she wants to by any means. But as much as she’d like to just not do it, it would send a message to the rest of the committee and then Karen would have the chance to take Zara’s position. And she will not allow that.
She knocks on the door of the three that had already moved in, hoping that maybe they’re too busy unpacking. They did just pull up less than an hour ago, even if she had heard that Katelyn was moving in here and she would secretly be happy to see Katelyn again but she would rather avoid them as a whole-
The door swings open, a black-haired woman and a meif’wa stand at it. The exact ones she didn’t want to see. “Greetings from the neighborhood committee. My name is Zara Ro’Meave. As the Head of this neighborhood I-“ The black-haired woman interrupts her. “Zara? You’re Garroth’s little sister right? Wha- what are you doing here?” It seems that no matter how much she tries, that’s all these people recognize her from.
“…you are so not qualified for that,” She says with a exasperated look. “You don’t even like…anything especially the safety and wellbeing of others, why would you-“ Zara cuts the woman- Aphmau off. “Power, that’s why, and just because you’re here doesn’t mean I’m gonna make your lives easier.” The meif’wa- Nana, if her minds serves correctly- stares at her, maybe questioning how her perfect friend and…Zara could be related. To be honest, sometimes she wonders the same thing.
Ugh. “Just- ugh just take this, it’s a welcome packet. Don’t look at me like that, I didn’t make it, I’m just giving it to you,” She smiles cockily at the girls “Personally I could care less if you feel welcome or not. I just want to show that I have power over you and you can’t do anything about it.” The girls look more annoyed than anything else. Then she catches a glimpse of blue…she supposed this was unavoidable.
“Oh Zara, hey, I forgot you lived in this area.” Katelyn smirks at her before looking over to her two new slightly deflated roommates. “…What did you do?” She crosses her arms and leans against the wall, now slightly suspicious of the slightly blushing woman. “Ahem I- uh should be going now. Things to do, people to see, you know how it is.” Zara finishes before making a hasty retreat, seeing her friend rolling her eyes and looking back at her roommates.
As Aphmau closes the door KC finally speaks up. “I don’t like her…” her flattened ears and still tail proves her point. “I still don’t understand why you do, Katelyn.” Aphmau pauses and looks back at her blue-haired friend. “She seems to hate everyone and everything.” Katelyn smiles and stands up fully. She gives her friends one last glance and walks towards the stairs.
“…maybe that’s why they get along,” KC tilts her head slightly. “They’re both meanies!” They giggle when a shout of “I heard that!” Comes from upstairs.
“Well as long as we’re avoiding unpacking, do you want to go say “hi” to our new neighbors? I mean they can’t all be Zara!” The Mefi’wa smiles and holds up a bowl of fruit “I even have this fruit bowl to give them!” Her ears finally perk back up and her tails quivering excitedly “Sure, KC” The dark-haired girl smiles back at her excited friend.
Grabbing her friend’s hand the pink mefi’wa guides them out the door and down the street to a neighbor’s house. She quickly knocks on the door. A laugh escapes the purple girl’s mouth, “Wow KC, I didn’t think you’d be this excited over meeting our neighbors” KC knocks again “What can I say? I just want to see someone other than she-who-shall-not-be-named!” The mefi’wa knocks— more like bangs— on the door again. “Wha- who is she? Voldemort?” Aphmau says as KC continues to bang on the door.
“I’m coming, I’m coming!” A yell comes from inside, “Pizza guy must be in a rush…” a mumble is heard as the man inside finally opens the door. “Well, aren’t you the cutest pizza girl I’ve even seen?” The man— Brendon— smiles at them “Ah! Brendon its so good to see you again!” Aphmau hugs him, “Yeah…it’s been a while, hasn’t it?” He holds her for a second before seeing the meif’wa, “Oh uh- KC its- it’s great to see you again,” he blushes and rubs the back of his neck. “You’re just as beautiful as I remember- or uh cute! I- I gotta go!“ He backs up— bright red— and slams the door in their face.
“Do you think he still has a crush on me?” The mefi’wa looks back at her friend. “Don’t act cute.” Aphmau looks at her with a deadpan expression. Another moving truck pulls up across the street from their house. “Woah, new neighbors showing up on the day as us? What a coincidence!” KC puts the fruit bowl down on Brendon’s porch. Aphmau stares at her. “What? We were gonna give it to him anyway. Even if he’s not ready to see me, I’m still giving it to him.” KC smiles at Aphmau, “...What did I say about acting cute?”
With a roll of her eyes, KC pushes Aphmau towards the truck “I think I’m pretty much done with people for today, you’re on your own here.” She waves and starts walking towards their new home. “That girl…” the purple girl crosses the street with a smile to go meet the even newer neighbors.
“You have got to be kidding me.” Aphmau glares at Garroth and Laurance as Dante quickly flees the scene in an attempt to avoid her anger. “Did you idiots follow me here?! What the hell were you two thinking?” The dumb blond moves to hide behind the just-as-dumb brunette, though he gets pushes away “When we found out that you were moving we had just gotten the idea to move as well! It’s just a coincidence that we happen to move right across the street from you…and on the same day…” Laurance says, quickly hearing how suspicious he sounds. Aphmau looks at Garroth with a disapproving glare, “Is this true, Garroth?” The blond withers under her gaze. “Uh- Yeah, totally…”
“Well if this is really a coincidence, I guess I can’t get mad can I? And you are my boys, so I believe you!” She says with a sickly sweet smile. “Oh and I’m sure Zara is gonna be ecstatic to see her big brother living in the same neighborhood as her! Did you know that she’s the head of the neighborhood committee? I’m sure that’ll make living here great for you Garroth.” A chill seems to run down his spine, Laurance’s too. She knows that Garroth loves his sister but…he doesn’t always like her. He would die for her, but that doesn’t mean he likes be tormented by her. “Well, I guess I’ll see you boys around! Now that all of us live here!” Aphmau giggles as she walks off. Garroth looks at his friend’s scared face. “…we have made a terrible mistake.”
“Greetings from the neighborhood committee. My name is Zara Ro’Meave. As the Head the neighborhood committee, I’m here to- Are you kidding me?!”
