Spray Foam Insulation
Open Cell: Softer, more flexible, great for soundproofing, and less expensive, but less insulating power (R-value). Closed Cell: Rigid, more durable, higher R-value, also acts as a moisture barrier, but costs more. Both work well, but the choice depends on your insulation needs and budget. #insulation #newhouseconstruction #Building
Here's A Septic Saver!
Consider connecting your laundry drain to a gray water pipe to reduce the load on your septic tank. Not all areas allow it, so check local codes before planning. This is more practical if you’re on a larger piece of property. Have you ever had a house with a gray water line..? #BuilderBrigade #homebuildingtips #homebuilding #customHome #HomeBuildingChecklist #septic #graywater

Stair Access For Storage
🙋‍♀️ Should they ask for access under the stairs...? It’s common to see the area under the stairs blocked off. I’d prefer some sort of access for storage when building a new home. Sometimes it won’t be allowed because of structural or safety issues but it never hurts to ask. ✅ If you want more ideas like this, go look at my Home Building Checklist at BuilderBrigade.com #BuilderBrigade #homebuildingtips #homebuilding #customHome #HomeBuildingChecklist
Save Money On Lumber When Building a House
Spacing studs at 24 inches can save you on lumber costs and improve energy efficiency by reducing thermal bridging cold air from outside transferring through the studs. For those prioritizing energy efficiency, consider an exterior layer of PolyISO insulation around the whole house, this would drastically reduce thermal bridging regardless of stud spacing. You get the best of both worlds—efficient energy use without compromising stability or ease of mounting. #homebuilding #HomeBuildingChecklist
Dennis Comstock - Builder Brigade on Instagram: "✅The Ultimate Home Building Checklist at BuilderBrigade.com These guys had spray foam applied to the underside of roof to reduce the heat radiating on the porch area. They’ll still have a porch ceiling but I’m sure this will make a significant impact on the temperature under the porch that overlooks the pool. What do you think? Would you consider this spray foam on the porch? Dennis Comstock - Builder Brigade on Instagram: "🤔 Would you pay extra for your attic to look like this…? ➡️ Link in my Amazon Store (Bio) Amazon.com/Shop/BuilderBrigade These plastic devices are called Ti-D wire. They keep the wires organized in the attic. When I go in my attic the blown-in insulation covers all the wiring running across the ceiling joists so I’m often stepping on these wires. Wiring is not typically installed like this because it saves money on material. If you use something like Ti-D wire, you’ll be paying more for material, so it’s up to you if it’s worth it. Your builder or electrician can probably give you a rough estimate on the increased cost. 👇All the tips and ideas from my videos are organized in here: ✅The Ultimate Home Building Checklist at Buil
Web Floor Trusses For Building a New Home
🪚The most common choices for floor joists 1.Solid (dimensional) lumber 2.Webbed trusses 3.I-Joists 🔥I prefer webbed floor trusses personally (if the application makes sense of course). One big downside to trusses is how quickly they fail in a fire. Called “Fireman killers”, they’ve been reported to collapse because the metal gusset plates heat up and collapse the truss. #homebuildingtips #homebuilding #customHome #HomeBuildingChecklist

The ability to plug into the house has been such a luxury. I cycle the generator on and off to conserve gas. No need to pull out appliances to plug in extension cords. This is a must-have if your budget is tight and can’t do the fixed @generac generator. You can roll out the portable Genny and get going 👍. I never thought we’d be running off this thing as long as we have but so grateful our damage was minimal and family is safe. My thoughts to those who were not so lucky. #BuilderBrigade #homebuildingtips #homebuilding #customHome #HomeBuildingChecklist"
