Seeds Now on Instagram: "I know all the options can be confusing when you’re standing at the garden center wondering what type of soil you should be buying for your project. I’ve been there! 👩‍🌾 I’m not a soil expert but after 4 years of building new in-ground beds across multiple properties, filling raised beds, and container gardening, here’s what I’ve learned about each type and when to use them ⬇️ ✨SAVE this post to come back to next time you’ve got a project underway and need to buy soil! ✨ 🌱 Top soil: this is earth that has been screened to remove debris and have a consistent structure. It’s great for using to fill holes and build new beds, but it’s typically not enriched with any additives so isn’t the best for growing plants on its own. Think of this as a general landscaping

We wanted to show people how quick, easy, & inexpensively, you can build a garden bed. 🌱It doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive to throw something together to grow food! If you are wanting to start a garden and are short on cash, this is a great option. 💚If you’d like the links to everything I used in this video, leave me the word “LINK” in the comments and I will send that right over to you! Also, you’ll get two extra links. One link to a YouTube video of mine, where we built a different style of raised bed. Plus a link to the self-sufficient living library, which has 118 resources, including ebooks and courses. Which includes plans for other raised beds, chicken coops, and so much more gardening

Stacy Ling | Garden and Home on Instagram: "One of the biggest mistakes home gardeners make with growing bearded irises is planting them too deeply. Planting them too deeply can cause them not to thrive with lackluster blooms. And we don’t want that, am I right? 🌸 Here’s what you need to know! 🌸Plant them in a location that receives at least 6-8 hours of full sun in well-draining soil. And it’s always a good idea to amend your soil with compost and other organic matter before you plant. The optimal time for planting the bearded iris rhizomes are in late summer/early fall. 🌸Dig a shallow hole, around 4 inches deep. 🌸Create a small mound of soil in the center of the hole. 🌸Place the rhizome on top of the mound, with the roots spread downwards and the fan of leaves facing outwards.

It's saved Kevin's watermelons, melons, and luffa planting in the past. For seeds to sprout, water needs to get into the seed hull and trigger the germination process. With large, thick seeds, that can take some time! By taking small snips (we love the Felco 322's on our store) and making a TINY cut at the very edge of a seed, you'll allow water inside quicker. You might be surprised to find your seeds sprouting twice as fast! Note: This tip is great for large, easy to handle seeds - don't do it on small seeds!"
Angela Judd on Instagram: "Worm composting directly in the garden bed simplifies the process of vermicomposting. ⁣ ⁣ The worms live, work, reproduce, and make worm castings in the garden bed where they are needed. ⁣ ⁣ If you live in the low desert, now is the perfect time to add them to your beds.⁣ ⁣ Want to learn more? Comment “Worm Bin” and I’ll send you a link to my blog post all about it. The blog post includes an extensive FAQ section to help you understand the process.⁣ ⁣ It’s been shown that worm castings in the garden help plants grow larger and stronger. They also get more and better-quality flowers, fruit, and vegetables. It can also increase a plant’s resilience to pests, drought, heat, disease, and other stress. ⁣ ⁣ In-bed vermicomposting solves the problem of what to do with
