Monolithic dome homes floor plans

We wonder what Bilbo, Tolkien’s hero hobbit, would have thought about the earth-bermed, 1400-square-foot, Monolithic Dome home, completed in October 2004, in Flag Pond, Tennessee.

The genius of this plan is the 24’ diameter “hub” between the garage and the main house. This hub is a minimalist’s dream. Imagine all the messy stuff—everything from seasonal decor to hockey uniforms–wrangled in one place. It would make keeping the living areas clean a breeze. Other highlights include the big kitchen with a pantry and the clever bathrooms, each with extra storage. Consider removing the wall between the kitchen and living room to free up even more space!

With a house like this, you’d never need to leave home again. This home has a huge pantry and a kitchen that naturally flows into the large dining and living areas. The primary suite boasts two big closets, a giant shower and a standalone office space. A second living room, exercise room and generous hobby area (with powder room) are fun extras afforded by the big square footage of this triple-dome house.

The main floor of this plan benefits from the shape of the structure. It will naturally create a gorgeous double arch between the living and kitchen/dining areas. The formal entry off the living area with access to a storage closet is a plus. Another highlight is the dining room, with French doors leading out to the patio. The primary bedroom has an ensuite with a garden tub, a bidet, and a large walk-in closet. If homeowners don’t need a bathtub on the main floor, there is plenty of space…
