1.1K reactions · 174 shares | With only a few days left before the fall equinox my garden has started putting itself to bed. But there is still oregano, still pungent and potent and growing in the late summer sun. Oregano oil came to mind as a way to savor its flavor and to keep it around for all its great plant power. I harvested the sprigs of oregano and let them air dry for a few days. I live in a very arid environment so they went dry pretty fast. Just make sure if you do this they are kind of crunchy before you infuse them. Any moisture will introduce bacteria to your infusion. Es no bueno. Oregano oil smells amazing, but it is also a pretty potent oil infusion. Many folks think it helps with digestion, and helps soothe achy muscles and is pretty darn good at kicking colds and viruses to the curb. Oregano Oil Fill your clean and sterilized jar half full with dry oregano leaves. Then cover the oregano leaves and fill the jar to the top with olive oil. Cover with a lid. For the first day or two I like to put the jar in a sunny warm window to sort of kick start the infusion. But after one or two days I move it to a darker cabinet. I like to keep the delicate properties of the olive oil in good shape. In 2-4 weeks strain the oregano olive oil infusion through a fine mesh strainer into a clean jar. Kept in a cool and dry place the oregano oil will last months, maybe even longer but you’ll use it up before then. To use; My favorite way to use oregano oil is to prevent colds, viruses, and flus. Or to help beat them when you already have one. It can burn when taken directly so it’s best to dilute a ¼ tsp into some water and take it like a shot (😂). Or mix with a bit of honey. You can also mix a couple drops with a teaspoon of another carrier oil and use it to massage sore muscles and joints. It also tastes great in marinades and salad dressings. Enjoy!! #gardenharvest #plantpower #seasonalliving #slowliving #apothecarycabinet #oreganooil #autumniscoming #backyardgarden | The Wild Apothecary | Pearl Jam · Yellow Ledbetter

70K views · 3.1K reactions | Oregano Oil: One of nature's best antibiotics! Literally like a first aid kit in a bottle, this oil can be used topically or taken internally. As always, please do your research before consuming herbal medicine, especially if you are on medication or have pre exisiting conditions. Additional Instructions: To simplify things, it's a 1:1 ratio of cut-up oregano (dried or fresh) to carrier oil of choice. I prefer extra virgin olive oil. I've read that extra virgin olive oil is the best choice for oregano oil for medicinal potency, but you can use other monounsaturated fats like avocado oil, almond, or walnut oil. I honestly didn't measure this recipe, because it's something I make so often I can judge what I'm doing by experience, don't be like me lol. Now if you use fresh leaves, they can wilt and you'd want to add less oil, I've just always done 1:1 no matter if fresh or dry oregano and it's been just fine for me. Now if you do NOT speed up the infusion process by putting your Jar in hot water for 10 minutes, then you will want to store your oregano oil in a dark cool place like a pantry cabinet. If you DO sit your jar in warm water, then after the 10 minuted put it in a windowsill for 2 weeks. For BOTH methods: shake jar every several days. After 2 weeks strain and store in amber colored glass bottle. Oregano oil can be stored in a dark dry place for up to several months, or in the refrigerator for up to a year. You can add a few drops of lemon oil or grapefruit oil to the extract as a natural preservative. All oils can go bad if stored improperly. If you aren’t sure whether your oil has gone rancid, pour a little in a spoon and sniff it. If it has a strong, sour odor, you should toss it and make a new batch. When taking it orally, avoid getting it directly on your tongue or lips because it’s spicy and may create a burning sensation. Take a sip of water, hold it in your mouth and add 1 to 3 drops of oregano oil into the water. Swallow. Follow with more water. Dilute 2 to 3 drops of oregano oil in one cup of water and drink the full cup. #herbalmedicine #herbalmedicinemaking #holistic #oreganooil #naturalremedies #naturalmedicine #holistichealth | Alison Schillfarth
