We're going to be doing kind of a faux distress technique on this that I hope you guys are going to love. So, I did go ahead and do two coats of the white just to be sure it had good coverage. For the next step in the faux distressing, I'm grabbing my brown paint and a foam brush and what I'm doing here is I'm dipping and then I'm dabbing some of the excess off and I'm just going around the edges to kind of create that distressed look and now, you're going to see that I'm coming through and lightly brushing it across to give it a little bit of that dry brush look But I love how you can just add some extra fun elements with this and make this basically as distressed as you want it to be or as lightly distressed. So you have full control over how much you are adding here. I decided to come in and do a little bit of a heavier distressing. Nothing too crazy. But I am hitting up the edges and then adding that dry brush effect. And then you're going to want to do the same thing on the inside of the board. This is where our project's going to go. It's technically the back of the board but for us we're using it as the front so I'm doing the same across there. Once you've got the desired look, you can come in with some sandpaper and kind of rough it up even more. What do you all think? I'm loving how this is coming together. I added a little bit of brown paint to my spindle that I'm going to use as my tree base and now for the super fun part. This pack comes with four different sizes of doily so I'm grabbing one of each size and now we're simply going to fold them to start making the shapes for our tree. So, all I'm doing here is folding it in half and then folding it in half again to create these little triangles. Fold it in half. Fold it in half again and as you can see, these are different sizes. So, can you see where we're going with this? That's right y'all. We are making this into a tree but we're not done because we're going to paint this. I'm using the Deco Art Desert Cactus but you could use any green for this project or any color at all. I added just a little bit of hot glue to keep those pieces together and now, I'm taking a chip brush and I'm simply dry brushing on some of the green. All this means is I'm not giving this full coverage. I wanted it to almost look like a snowy tree. I didn't want it to be solid green but of course you could do your solid. When you're doing the dry brush technique, you simply want to dip and then dab off excess paint so there's not a lot of paint on your brush and then lightly go back and forth over your piece. Now, it's time to assemble it and watch the real magic happen. When I say I'm obsessed with this project, that is a bit of an understatement. I truly love this. Just add some hot glue to the back of each doily working your way up creating the shape of Of course, a Christmas tree. Can you believe that these are Dollar Tree paper doilies. I'm literally in shocked over how gorgeous this is and I think it could be such a beautiful staple piece of decor for your home this holiday season. This would also make an amazing gift. Let me know what you guys think. I hope you're inspired. If you enjoyed this video, I would appreciate you sharing it so we can spread the crafty Christmas inspiration. Thank you guys for watching.
