School Safety Drills K-2
School safety drills are so important and even though they're probably not our favorite thing to talk about, we have to prepare children for the kinds of emergencies that could happen during the year. The problem is, they're a little bit scary. The alarms are loud and there's a sense of urgency that jolts us out of our routine...even when we know it's coming. So how can we make things like tornado drills and lockdown drills more kid-friendly without compromising the seriousness of the situation?
Fun Ideas for Classroom Rewards
Classroom rewards shouldn't be a budget buster! If you need fun ideas for rewards that won't break the bank, turn to your students. That's what we did and their sweet suggestions became this set of behavior rewards they love to earn. Truthfully, a few of the rewards sound more like jobs, but many children love acts of service and find the opportunity rewarding. Others want first pick at recess, a chance to lead the class cheers, or a day to wear their slippers to school. (Me too!) Check it out!
Preposition Activities and Worksheets
Teaching prepositions and positional words is really fun when you use games and other engaging activities. Start by gathering up a few essential picture books like Where's Spot and We're Going on a Bear Hunt. Then, introduce prepositions through active lessons that get kids up and moving... modified versions of musical chairs, Simon Says, and Pictionary, for example. From nature walks to worksheets, I've shared our favorite activities in this blog post for kindergarten and first grade teachers.
