In Anodyne, the character Young wakes up in a mysterious void filled with geometric white platforms, guided only by the voice of the mysterious character, Sage. Take the role of Young as you explore and fight your way through over twenty nature, urban and abstract themed areas in the human Young's subconscious, ranging from diverse, monster and trap filled dungeons, to passive and friendly pastoral landscapes. Anodyne's aesthetics are presented with a 16-bit-era visual style and a moody, dream-like soundtrack. Are you ready for a nostalgic adventure in the land of classic pixelated action-RPGs? Are you up for some deep and moving storytelling? All this and more awaits you in Anodyne.

I recognize this game is not revolutionary in terms of gameplay or graphics or anything, and for a lot of people it will land with an 'alright, that was cool.' But if it hits, it HITS

And brother? IT HIIIIIT for me. Enough meat on the game's bones to have some actually engaging gameplay, but the star of the show is the writing and just.. feel. Atmosphere not the right word, it goes beyond that.

Okay, that last bit sounded pretentious. But for real.

Anodyne has beautiful music. It controls a bit janky, but I 100%ed it, so it's well worth it. The tile-swapping mechanic is revolutionary and really makes the game. I played Anodyne 2 first, and it was exciting seeing how the two connect.

i liked it a lot!!! i feel like i have some broader thoughts about how it fits into indie game canon, and it was really interesting to play after playing Sephonie first somehow. i love a developer with a tangible vibe. maybe i'll try and yap more about it when it isn't midnight on a monday. onto the second one!

i thought the music and atmosphere of this game was really good. very beautiful at points but also genuinely unsettling

Very cryptic, very symbolic, very charming. It's still hard to grasp the game 100% after 100% it but I did come to understand the basics of what the game is trying to convey. It's super existential and I was weirdly on edge the whole time playing but I did come to enjoy the game overall. The gameplay is very basic zelda puzzle dungeon crawling which is fine since the game is more focused on the story and it wasn't convoluted to navigate but not too linear to be boring. I thought the mystery and story was cool too but super confusing until later within the game. The music is also utterly fucking terrifying some parts genuinely should not have whatever soundtrack was assigned to them. Overall as a rpg it wasn't bad but it wasn't anything great but as a horror game this game excels at fulfilling players with continuing dread throughout which I give it props.

I love how this game implements "bugs" for exploration and finding secrets
