First GOTM finished for April 2025. Woo boy, did this one age poorly. It feels a little unfair to really judge this one, as I never played it back in the day and can recognize what an achievement a lot of this stuff would be when this game released. A lot of neat ideas and seeing the groundwork laid for games like Star Fox 64, but it just wasn't all that enjoyable to play by today's standards. Thankfully it was quite short.

This game really aged like milk but it's still fine

Impressed by its visuals. Imagine 1993 and putting this into a Super Nintendo? While its technology was the selling point, "Star Fox" has this strong sense of itself even in this stripped-back form because of the presentation. The characters talking in battle, the voiceover commands. It creates an immersion that enhances the engaging gameplay.

What strikes the most about its aesthetic is the bareness. Technical limitation births imagination. The whole journey going to this strange zone in the end and fighting a cube creates a feeling that we are fighting something greater than technology, yet because our characters are fueled by something stronger than this mystery — companionship/comradery — they can overcome anything in the known or unknown universe.

First time ever playing a Super Nintendo and this was my first game. You know it honestly wasn’t that bad, and apart from me being bad at these type of games it was still kinda difficult even when I finally got the controls down. Also for how basic the goal of the game was it was really entertaining. Any time I ran out of lives I really wanted to go back and do another run. All in all pretty fun, I like the different routes too.

p good for what it is but playing this after star fox 64s release this just feels like a prototype of that game. framerate is also really rough here, and with how low poly everything is and the speed of aiming it can be really annoying sometimes trying to get enough hits in on certain enemies. gameplay loop is fun enough though even with these issues, so i think overall i did enjoy myself here.
