Yakuza 5 is an open-world action-adventure game and the fifth main title in the Yakuza series developed by Sega. For the first time in the series, it features five settings across Japan along with five playable main characters. The game also features a brand new graphics engine, unlike previous games in the series that have been re-utilizing the same engine since Yakuza 3.

Yakuza 5 is a microcosm of the series to me
It's fun, it's ambitious , it's characters are lovely
The story does a lot that I like
and plenty that I don't
It's deeply flawed
It's ambitious, you can tell they were trying to make the best possible game they could but that same ambition is a detriment and leads to a bloated narrative
Many great ideas but not enough time to develop them
The main villain literally has no idea why he's the final boss that's frankly inexcusable
At the same time I found myself really drawn to the protagonists, their stories speak to their emotional truths and I was quite pleased with them despite the fair share of stupidity in the actual plot
And yes I do love Shinada but everyone who plays this game does

Story is a complete fucking mess and the length and pacing is absurd but the sheer stupidness (that may be intentional) of it all makes it endearing for me.

let me play a yakuza game that is just 100% weird shit and no boring parts. it feels like i have played this exact game 20 times now but its actually 4 times. they are just so persistent and adamant on shoving some dumb fucking storyline down your throat when i just wanna get to the fun parts. luckily this game is filled with stupid ass shit that is very funny and i love that but to get there you have to sit through hours of nothing talking about stuff i do not care about. these stories are so generic and uninteresting i just wanna see what goofy shit they will pull next i dont wanna hear about who is gonna try kill who!!!!!!!!!
