Resident Evil 4 this... Resident Evil 4 that... Even sharing a word for the title, a lot of easy and basic comparisons can be made for these two games. They will both give you a survival horror kick, sure, but I do believe The Evil Within has managed to forge its very own Identity.

Survival difficulty felt great and, for the most part, resources felt scarce, offering just enough to scrape through. Admittedly, nearly all the locations/environments are common horror tropes, and it does borrow a plentiful amount from other games of its kind; I wouldn't call anything particularly groundbreaking. However, I love any game that can be unapologetically itself and The Evil Within is exactly that.

Getting to the true ending left me with such a sour taste, so it's only in retrospect I can remember and understand how this game is widely considered a JRPG gem. A beautiful game with a masterful OST. Combat and job class systems that shine within the genre.

Bravely Default, does however, slowly become a chore as you progress, with difficulty spikes and repetitive gameplay/plotline. If I could completely look past how the latter half of the game made me feel, I know for sure I would have much more appreciation for this game as a whole.

Charming, engaging and doesn't overstay it's welcome... Yet manages to feel ever so slightly underwhelming when it comes to utilising the features it initially presents. That being said, it'd be impossible to review this game without mentioning that it is incredibly beautiful and clearly put together with a lot of love. Sea of Stars is fully deserving of any and all praise for its art and art direction.

Overall an enjoyable & captivating experience start to end, but just a few things holding it back to stop it from fully hitting the spot. Even if it was just a bit more difficult, I think it could've been a massive step up.
