COULD BE ANY KINDA INTERNAL STRUGGLE FROM SELF DOUBT TO A BRAIN GHOUL.
extremely cool article you should read if you haven’t already
Yes, absolutely, especially now in this era of shitty, fall-apart, fast fashion. Also, adding to this, I'll add info that I've found the most useful in learning to sew -
First off, there are three stitches that are really useful to know:
- Running stitch - easiest and quickest to do, but weakest.
- Ladder stitch - also very easy and quick, more sturdy, and also sometimes called an "invisible stitch" because the end result is pretty well hidden. Good for seams and tears.
- Backstitch - a bit harder to do and definitely takes more time, also definitely more visible, but the end result is damn near indestructible. I used this to sew a couple chair cushions as a birthday gift for my mom out of scrap materials and the results have lasted years. I also used this to repair some couch cushions and take in a skirt whose elastic had failed.
Further Tips (from a non-professional, so keep that in mind):
*Threading the needle is the most difficult bit, but wetting the ends of the thread helps.
*If you tie off the ends, you're going to want to use a double knot. I've also heard a backstitch can be used to hold the string in place, but when I tried that, it came undone so I ended up having to tie off the ends anyway (but again, I'm not a professional seamstress, I just needed to get the job done).
*You'll also want the thread length to be several times the length of the tear - like 4-5 times, even more, especially for a smaller tear. This is because you'll need more length to tie off the ends, and you'll lose half the length of the thread at the very start (I recommend double threading - both for strength and because I've found it easier to do).
*Pins help hold fabric in place and so are particularly helpful for longer tears, or holes requiring a patch.
my advice to you is to never waste your time trying to fit into a club or hobby or any community who makes you beg for acceptance and approval just to participate when you could do the alternative—get involved in a niche and endangered hobby run primarily by old people.
i wanted to learn how to hunt ruffed grouse and train bird dogs so i sent an email to my local chapter of the ruffed grouse society explaining that getting into wildlife groups is intimidating to me because I’m trans
and all they saw was that someone under 60 wanted to learn to hunt grouse & several months into my mentorship I was told that like 7 old guys argued over me until they had to pick a number between 1 and 100 to decide who got to personally mentor me.
imagine vying for the acceptance of some gatekeeping weirdos when your mere interest could be inciting verbal combat among retirees
my mentor was so sweet & funny too. he suggested we meet over lunch first so he could tell me about what to expect before we got started & I emailed back “I’m ready to get started right away!”
and he said “I was actually suggesting lunch first for your comfort on the assumption you wouldn’t want to get together with a man you’ve never met, in the woods with a gun.”
Like, I trusted him because of the referrals I got from one of my professors but like, right you are sir fair enough. Lunch it is.
exactly 😌

400+ people were killed in gaza last night.
my friend tarek has been doing some amazing community organizing in palestine — he’s been teaching classes for children with my other friend farah AND distributing water and providing iftar meals during ramadan throughout rafah! his brother just had a major orthopedic surgery he had to wait about a year for and since food and water is incredibly scarce he can’t properly recover. please donate to their efforts!!!
quick reminder: tarek isn’t just a word on your screen, he is my friend.
he’s 21, the same age as me. before the war he was studying to be a translator and he dreamt of voice acting, just like so many of you reading this. (he’s pretty good too actually.) he would probably not call himself a poet but every few days he posts something so beautifully worded that he might as well be a poet laureate. he recently wrote: “gaza is sick of being praised by anyone. gaza is tired that its image is on satellite tv. gaza is sick of its name in the sad poems. gaza is tired of the repeated endings.” the message is clear — sentiments are not enough, his people need HELP.
every day i tell him im doing everything i can. and it’s true, i am, but its barely anything, as i’m disabled and bedridden. i’ve kept that fact from him out of shame because i see what he has to endure each day, but i feel SO POWERLESS. every time an announcement breaks that more bombs have dropped in the night or more innocent people were gunned down in broad daylight, my heart sinks with terror and i wonder if i’ve lost my friend. it really would mean so much — not just to him, to me — if you could donate anything you can spare to tarek and his family. he deserves the whole world and more.
yesterday tarek almost got on a water distribution truck that was targeted with bombs. the day before his neighbors had their house bombed (during Eid) and that whole family died. please help my friend

What happens when two Transdykes get sick of non-transsexual's uninformed representation of their sexualities and their lives? They grab their 8 millimeter home video camera, their last 200 bucks, and come up with an uncompromising in-your-face flick about their shitty relationships with gay men and their unabashed attraction to other transsexual women. I can never leave Tumblr because after years of sporadic therapy utterly failed to even approach the core of my problem some random tumblr user was like “I processed my trauma by writing a 10,000 word work of filthy fanfic erotica” and I was like “fuck it I’ve tried everything else” and now I’m 17 chapters and 20,000 words deep into an unpublishable work of obscenity and after careful literary analysis with one of the Beloved Mutuals I have come to some Terrible Revelations about my childhood and may now continue the process of Healing. Where else am I supposed to get this kind of experience. Who does this. Why are we like this. I’m never leaving. I love y’all.
when someone breaks you
The terrible truth is you want no mending

My equivalent of smelling blood in the water is catching a sweet, blushing trans girl getting just a little too flustered when I compliment her. That shaky breath, the way her fingers twitch like she doesn’t know what to do with herself—it’s intoxicating.
I will be hitting on you relentlessly, watching as you squirm under the weight of my words, heat creeping up your neck until you’re hiding your face, barely able to look at me. You smell like a soft, trembling prey animal, and I’d have it no other way. Now, be a good girl and let me make you squirm.
THIS. This is it. This makes me HUNGRY.
Wendy Carlos pictured with the Moog System 55 a staple in her solo projects and iconic film scores, including for Stanley Kubrick’s ‘A Clockwork Orange’ (1972)
One of electronic music’s most important figures, Wendy Carlos is a true pioneer of the craft with countless influential albums and scores. She provided technical advice and insights to Robert Moog during the development of the Moog Synthesizer, an instrument that would revolutionize the music landscape. Her album ‘Sonic Seasonings’ (1972) is an early example of an ambient record, blending the then-new synth with field recordings to create an entirely new listening experience — years before the term “ambient” was even coined!
Happy Transgender Day of Visibility! I want to highlight the contributions of Wendy Carlos, a trans woman and pioneer of synthesizers. She helped in the development of the Moog synthesizer and is known for her iconic work on the film scores for A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and Tron. Without her, I likely wouldn’t have as many gizmos, gadgets, and mind-bending sounds to work with as a rock keyboardist, and a lot of my favorite bands, from Pink Floyd to the Decemberists, wouldn’t have the unique sounds they’re known for. Michael Stein and Kyle Dixon, composers of the synth-laden Stranger Things soundtrack, also cite her as a major influence. She also raised awareness of transgender issues by publicly coming out as trans back in 1979.
Thank you, Wendy Carlos, for all your incredible work 🏳️⚧️
(Now I just gotta figure out how to get my hands on a copy of Sonic Seasonings.)
I promise you, relationship anarchy is a good thing. Tell your friends you love them. Go on dates. Domme them. Take them to weddings. Have a relationship with the sub from the dungeon where she does your taxes or you mow his lawn. Help your neighbor plant begonias and become their honorary granddaughter. Become friends with your partner’s partners. Cuddle with your book club and talk about Polysecure or something, idk.
I don’t care. Just stop expecting every relationship to follow a specific pattern and instead find the beauty you both want in your specific relationship with that other person.
Life is more than the nuclear family and strict pseudo-Christian mythological ideals.
