Here’s How to Achieve Mocha Mousse Hair

Hairstylists—rejoice! The 2025 Pantone® Color of the Year is here and for the first time in years it can easily translate to wearable hair colors. According to Pantone, “Mocha Mousse (17-1230) is a warming, brown hue imbued with richness,” the brand shares. “It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort.”

Why Mocha Mousse? According to Pantone, the hue was selected as it represents the world’s current quest for harmony. “The everlasting search for harmony filters through into every aspect of our lives, our relationships, the work we do, our social connections, and the natural environment that surrounds us,” they share. “Harmony brings feelings of contentment, inspiring a positive state of inner peace, calm, and balance, enabling us to be tuned in with the world around us.”

Here’s what Mocha Mousse hair is:

Mocha Mousse hair is a neutral to cool-toned brunette made up of beiges and chocolatey browns that can also be paired with subtle hints of warmth for a harmonious blend.

To create the hue: Mocha Mousse hair calls for a dimensional base that can be created using balayage, ribbon highlights or babylight techniques. The rich hue is achieved by using a cool-toned bronde toner or gloss that adds extra shine. The dimensional base combined with the rich toner results in a harmonious expensive-looking brunette shade.
