Hello!
I’m Chris Lowis. I’m a member of a co-operative software development company called Go Free Range. I used to work at FutureLearn, the BBC and the German Aerospace Center. I make music and write about audio on the web platform.
I’ve had a homepage at this domain for over 20 years. I’m still as excited today as I was then that it’s possible for anyone to have their own little corner of the web. And although I’m active on various social media platforms, this place belongs to me. There might be some things you find interesting too:
Weeknotes
During the COVID-19 pandemic some of my friends started writing weekly posts. Reading about their lives, hobbies and struggles with the state of the world was a great comfort to me, so I decided to do the same. My most recent weeknote is from 17 January 2025 and I’ve written 58 more.
Blog posts
I write blog posts and share links to things I’ve found. I’ve been doing that for a while, and during the mid-2010’s I wrote and gave conference talks about web audio. Here’s a few of those:
- I wrote up some notes from a talk I gave at IRCAM in Paris at the 1st Web Audio Conference in 2015.
- The same year I also gave a talk on the history of synthesis at ScotlandJS. I wrote loads of Web Audio code to explore different types of synthesis for this talk and never really did anything with it afterwards.
- People still occasionally write to thank me for a few tutorial posts I wrote on the Web Audio API. I think the code in those still makes sense even if it could do with updating to use more recent additions to the API.
Notes
I have a small personal wiki or “digital garden”. This is a place for to encourage me to write more more without the ceremony of “blogging”.
