Environmental Science Project - Research Issues
"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." This is an editable online environmental science research project inspired by the wisdom of Dr. Seuss! Students will first watch the 25-minute original Lorax (1972) online while answering comprehension/analysis questions. Then, they will pick their topics from a menu with 14 options to complete an online research project (an 8-slide presentation with specific requirements). Great Earth Day activity! 🌎

Project-Based Learning Ideas for Science
Mitosis and Meiosis Notes and Project
Looking for an engaging project to review mitosis and meiosis? This is a collaborative group project where students compare and contrast mitosis and meiosis. Allow students' creative sides to shine as they write silly songs... to be honest, my ninth graders were a bit skeptical at first, but this was hands-down one of the most fun projects we did in biology! This resource includes review notes and rubric as well as funny examples of what their projects might look like to provide inspiration.

Teaching Strategies for Science
This post is part of a series about what makes a good science teacher and focuses on classroom management. Most teachers I know developed their classroom management skills through trial by fire. I don’t believe that you must be thrown into the pool to learn how to swim. There are more humane ways to teach people how to swim. Analogously, there are ways to hone your classroom management skills that don’t involve days where you just want to pull your hair out…here are 3 strategies!
Back to School Science Bell Ringers
Grab these 5 free editable slides (PowerPoint or Google Slides) to get to know your science classes! Getting to know your students is essential to building a positive classroom culture. Bell ringers also provide invaluable structure to a class period. This resource is flexible; you can use the provided writing prompts as warm-ups or exit tickets. They can be projected on the board or work for a paperless classroom. Check out this freebie to see how I use them in the classroom. Enjoy!
