Michelle McRae | “Shelly” Your DIY BFF on Instagram: "Details HERE👇🏽 Paint-washing is a great way to update furniture without sacrificing the gorgeous wood grain. It is done by stripping sanding, brushing on diluted paint and then wiping off the excess. This dining table was stuck in 2015 and desperately needed a makeover. The dark finish dated it (and not in a good way) and made it look cheap. So I stripped it, sanded it, and then did a paint wash (followed by a glaze wash (same concept)). If you need process details or product links, COMMENT “table” and I’ll send them to you (links earn commissions). If you receive a blank message, check to make sure you follow me. There is an abundance of ways to lighten (or darken) furniture pieces but these are some tried and true methods we continue to use (🚨note that all but the faux wood methods do recommend at least a good scuff sand for best results!) 1. Paint washes. 3:1 Ratio of water and paint, brushed on and wiped off. Layer as needed and seal with a topcoat. 2. Wood bleach. This @zinsser one is a two-part system, wiping on part A, waiting a few minutes before adding part B and letting it sit overnight. Repeat as needed (ideal for stubborn stains). 3. Faux wood kits. Xiomara Bates •Home decor •DIYs •Furniture makeovers on Instagram: "I can’t not believe somebody was giving it away just because it was too old 🤯!! I am all about unique and old pieces of furniture because the quality is always better than what you buy in furniture stores these days. I started by sanding the top and the edges with my @makitatools orbital sander and I used 100 grit sand paper. We also got to use our new sand blaster /soda blaster and so far so good. I will be sharing more about it when we get to use a bit more with different types of wood and also we need to learn more about the different types of powders we have to use to make it more effective. But it did a great job removing the old finish from all those carved areas that were impossible to reach with my sander. Next f

Simply: - Mist with water (works best on stripper/sanded furniture) - Squeeze the colors and amount you wish (linear and with the grain if you want more dimension) - Brush on or use foam applicator to spread - Remove excess - Repeat as needed (clear wax top coat is an optional addition for protection but it does have a top-coat). Michelle McRae | “Shelly” Your DIY BFF on Instagram: "HERE👇🏽 This dresser was absolutely plastered with baby blue paint. So I grabbed my @greenez_ #SPONSORED stripper kit and stripped both the blue paint and the stain that was on the top. After a light sand and paintwash, I sealed it with GreenEZ furniture shield and it was sold and picked up within seven hours of listing it. What do you think? Are you team pop of color or team neutral? This has somehow become quite controversial. If you need the step-by-step details or supply links, COMMENT “GreenEZ” and I’ll send them to you. #dressermakeover #furnitureflipping #greenez"
Michelle McRae | “Shelly” Your DIY BFF on Instagram: "HERE👇🏽 Paint washing is a very popular refinishing method. After stripping the old finish to raw wood (this one was covered in baby blue paint), dilute the paint with water, brush it on and wipe off the excess. (Here I did a second, darker wash to add dimension too.) Doing so allows you to showcase the wood grain without darkening the finish. Comment “paint wash” if you need process details or product links (earns commissions). #beforeandafterfurniture #paintwash"
