So many patients stop flossing when they see blood, but blood is a sign that we aren’t cleaning our mouths effectively…

🩸 Why do our gums bleed? 🩸 

We have PLAQUE (the white yellow build up on our teeth) in our mouths all the time. Plaque contains bacteria 🦠 When it sits on our teeth for too long, our gums recognise the bacteria and try to fight it, like an infection. Blood rushes to the area and it becomes swollen and inflamed. Then when we go poking around with toothbrushes, floss, interdental brushes, it pours with blood. It can be quite alarming 🚨 But the good thing is, we know how to treat it 🤓
