Characters in Ignasi Monreal’s work for the Gucci Spring Summer 2018 campaign are inspired by the couple in ‘The Arnolfini Portrait’ (1434) by Jan van Eyck, housed at the National Gallery in London. ‘The Arnolfini Portrait’ depicts a merchant and his wife, their hand-in-hand pose in a room filled with complex iconography and perspective.
