Without good shoulder blade movement then pinching of muscles and other structures can cause pain

Hitting and serving in volleyball can cause more stress if the shoulder blade muscles are weak 

Try strengthening the serratus, lower and upper traps in an overhead position as best as you can. 

Serratus wall slides: Great exercise for reaching and stability in the shoulder blade. Don't overextend your back with this.
