Ship Wood Carving & Antique Shop
This wood carving & antique shop in Bouctouche, NB is really something to see. Charles Bernard aka ‘Chuck’ or ‘Woodchuck,’ the woodcarver & former owner's wife "Woodchip" now runs it since his passing. He was a colourful character & storyteller. He learned how to carve wood at Kingston Penitentiary, when he was in jail for various safe-cracking jobs. In the 1960’s he was known for passing counterfeit money, selling drugs and terrorizing the country with a bike gang. He finally turned a corner & changed his ways. His whittled creations have sold for thousands of dollars. Some woodcarvings hang in churches. He taught woodcarving at schools & the local Cultural Centre. Many of his carvings were about life. He carved a coffin with his life’s story etched into the wood.
