Did you know... once you get accustomed to my basic sourdough bread recipe (link in bio), you can start to go nuts (literally) and create FLAVORED sourdough loaves. You just mix your ingredients in after the autolyse stage and before the bulk fermentation (for increased flavor profiles). For spices or dried herbs I generally use 2 Tablespoons, for nuts or dried fruit - I cup of each chopped - per batch of dough (which makes 2 lg loaves). Some of our favorite combinations are: Cinnamon Raisin,

Flying home later today from our mini vacay and we’re going to miss the super bowl entirely (my poor hubby) but after a beautiful and rainy weekend in Santa Barbara - we don’t even care. It was so nice to get away for a few days and recharge. Our first day here I took a hot bath in the hotel room and then fell sleep and napped for almost 7 hours. It was so amazing. I haven’t taken a real nap in like 5 years. Unbelievable what good sleep and a long walk on the beach can do. I’m ready to take on

I’m getting so impatient for Spring. I’m ready to grow and plant all the green and colorful things! And then reprimand the chooks for trying to destroy my green and colorful things!

Right around this time last year, our tiny country town turned into a big frozen ice cube. Everything was super still and silent the day I took this picture...it was almost eerie how quiet it was. The only sounds you could hear was random icicles falling off of the trees in the distance, echoing through the valley, and animals slowly crunching through the ice as they grazed peacefully. It sure was beautiful.

Chicken breeds with pea combs can be hard for some to sex, so here’s some tips: Look for the 3 rows of peas on a darker more pronounced comb (boys!). Girls will have a pale, almost smooth comb until they get ready to lay. Don’t look too closely at the alien ones or you’re bound to get #chitchslapped - you’re welcome! Credits to @mr_tlb_farm for the stellar hand modeling and chick herding. 💯

Do you use dried herbs in your coop? It’s about that time to start thinking about Spring cleaning in the coop and runs. I always clean out my nesting boxes, spray down the bottoms, let dry and replace with new straw and plenty of dried herbs. The hens are always so happy, it’s like fresh sheets for us humans 😁 head over to @wildcraftedco for the best coop herbs around!

Over on the blog today I’m discussing nutrition & supplements, the feed we use for our flocks, adding herbs to your chicken’s diets and why you should avoid feeding your chickens yogurt! The link is in our bio. Do you have favorite supplement/treats you like to give your chickens? ************** 🌿 herbs are from @wildcraftedco 🐥 babies are from #myincubator ************
