It was a combination of a site visit and tour, and we spent a lot of time on Spring Island. I was like a kid in a candy store, and absolutely loved everything I saw. Plus, it was my first exposure to live oak trees, which were (and still are), so magical to me. One project we saw was the Gaskin residence, which was then under construction. I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen- a dog-trot barn reimagined as a house; the perfect balance of cool and funky. It changed my perception of what a house could be and helped foster my love of vernacular forms to inspire new design."⁠ ⁠ More of this hou
