Keeping Trains on Track: Rail/road grade separation structures using Deep Corrugated Structural Plate will be the main project type explored. Culverts, culvert relining, and collector pans will also be topics that will be presented. Project examples will include a ~12 m span rail tunnel under a mine haul road in Northern Ontario; a ~15.5 m span by over 50 m long rail tunnel for dual tracks in the UK; and a bridge replacement, with new MSE headwall, over a watercourse in Eastern Ontario where a new steel plate structure was installed under an existing bridge in a staged replacement. Trails on old Rails: Culvert, bridge and tunnel replacement and rehabilitation using corrugated steel will be covered in this presentation. Topics will include product geometries, coatings, and design service life (with content on water testing); and design considerations including height of cover, skew, end treatments and specifications. Project examples will include a 3.6 m diameter CSP tunnel used on the G2G Rail Trail in Ontario, a current project involving corrugated steel plate pier jackets on a bridge over the Ottawa River, and a tunnel reline project using Deep Corrugated Structural Plate in Pennsylvania. . #engineering #civilengineer #publicworks #infrastructure
