Diwali is a time to celebrate the "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance". Many of our team members celebrate the festival of lights at home and wanted to bring the rest of us in on the celebrations. We enjoyed Punjabi music and a delicious lunch of Indian street food treats including vada pav (deep fried potato dumpling placed inside a bread bun), grilled cheese and veg sandwiches, chicken kebab rolls, chicken tikka sandwiches, and mango saffron cheesecake. 🕯 Happy diwali from Peak Power!

The battery storage industry is nascent with lots of ups and downs. Todd Nguyen from Jinko Solar Co., Ltd., Chris Storring from EcoVolt Electric, and Peak Power's Shraddha Mishra, and moderator Matthew Sachs held a frank (and at points humorous) discussion about some of the pitfalls for these projects, how to mitigate issues, and some of the successes they've experienced. Hearing from the perspective of the hardware, construction, and legal experts gives us a well rounded view on the impacts and implications of engaging in an energy storage project. Key points to ensure a successful project include: 🤝 Aligning all relevant stakeholders on the intent of the project (stakeholders include the host site, landowners, financier, hardware suppliers, EPC, insurance, and legal). ⏳ Recognizing that it is a long-term agreement and fostering relationships to be able to work through issues that may arise. 👩🔧 There is a lot of technical expertise required in planning an energy storage project, so working with experienced professionals will save a lot of time, cost and effort.

Yesterday, Mark Olsheski from Sussex Strategy Group, Spencer Gill from Hydro One, David Donovan from Ontario Power Generation, and moderator Terry Young of Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) provided their insights on the future of Global Adjustment in Ontario. The main takeaways: The energy sector in Ontario will look very different in next decade. There will be an increased demand for electricity, driven by AI, data centres, and new economic opportunities like battery manufactures and EV manufacturers. We will require new supply on the grid to meet this demand, which will likely impact the price of energy. Flexibility will be a requirement – but also an opportunity for large consumers, including opportunities like the ICI program and even local programs. There are things large consumers can do, like installing onsite generation or batteries, and the best course is to take matters in their own hands and be proactive, rather than reactive to anticipated changes.
