Baked beans is a dish containing beans, sometimes baked and usually stewed in a sauce. Most canned baked beans use navy beans in a sauce. In Ireland and the United Kingdom, tomato and sugar sauce is used, and they are eaten on toast or as part of a breakfast. American Boston baked beans use a sauce of molasses and salt pork, the popularity of which has led to the city being nicknamed "Beantown". Canned baked beans are used as a convenience food. They may be eaten hot or cold.

Real Old Fashion Oven Baked Beans from Food.com: Doctored-up "canned beans" are OK if you're in a hurry...I've done it more than once, but for REAL Baked Beans, give these a try! The aroma of them baking in the oven is heavenly!!! A stoneware bean pot is preferred, but you can use a small covered roaster or casserole if need be. My Dad always used lean salt pork, but I prefer to use a good smoked bacon.
