Is Rust opensource?
Not all programming languages carry a license. Here is a Stackoverflow post about C language. (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/5099384/is-c-open-source)
Rust has a dual MIT and Apache. license (https://www.rust-lang.org/policies/licenses)
Over the years many CVEs have been discovered for the Linux Kernel (https://www.cvedetails.com/product/47/Linux-Linux-Kernel.html?vendor_id=33). Many of those involve memory corruption.

Just kept running 18.04 to 2024. Just switched to ESM and kept going.
jliljj from YouTube
I'd go for the upgrade, good way to stay current and learn.
FredsTech1 from YouTube
Asked about unattended upgrades.
Leo and Dan both use them. By default they just apply security updates but Dan turns them on for everything.

In my experience: people who are less familiar with system installations don't have problems with Anaconda's hub-and-spoke model.
Amanita from Patreon
It is impossible to Backport everything. Using the latest software is best but using LTS or ESR solutions is also good.

You guys should probably do an episode on the history of puppy Linux

Upgrade or ESM? Why not both?
This blog post (https://ubuntu.com/blog/ubuntu-20-04-eol-for-devicesional) reminded Leo he needed to make a decision.
Ubuntu Pro (https://ubuntu.com/pro) could let him kick the can a little.
Upgrades generally go well (https://documentation.ubuntu.com/server/how-to/software/upgrade-your-release/index.html) unless you have a bunch of 3rd party repos.
Always have a backup (https://rescuezilla.com) before any major changes.

Feedback
Mark from Saigon
Mark advocates for trying Snaps but understands they are not for everyone. He then dragged us into a merchandise tangent. Stay tuned for more on that.
Scott via Fireside
Scott uses Snaps on his Debian server. On the desktop he mostly sticks to Appimages and Flatpaks.
Dan from Matrix
Dan seldom uses Snaps and has them near the bottom of his ranking. The last one he remembers using is the Nextcloud snap on an Ubuntu server.
chraist also on Matrix
chraist uses Void and doesn't have Systemd therefore doesn't use Snaps. He asked if we thought there would ever be a Snap solution without Systemd.
bgt from Matrix
bgt says "meh, snaps aren't really that worth it to be honest. If there was no flatpak, sure, but like this, there's no need."
Marshman from Discord
Marshman thinks Snaps are a handy delivery method for proprietary applications.

At least under the hood Junos OS is based on FreeBSD (https://www.juniper.net/documentation/us/en/software/junos/junos-install-upgrade/topics/topic-map/junos-os-overview.html)
Stan - Multiple Operating Systems on the same hardware
It is posssible to dualboot Ubuntu (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot) and Linux Mint (https://www.learnlinux.tv/how-to-dual-boot-windows-11-linux-mint-step-by-step-guide/) or just about any Linux distribution.
As far as which distribution is best, that really depends on you and what works best in your mind.

The History of Gentoo
Stampede Linux (https://www.linuxjournal.com/article/2937)
When a system emerged, it was called Enoch (https://web.archive.org/web/20051126223839/http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/articles/making-the-distro-p1.xml)
Making a Distro part 2 (https://web.archive.org/web/20051118195918/http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/articles/making-the-distro-p2.xml)
Sustainability of the project had made its way to the forefront (https://web.archive.org/web/20051126225230/http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/articles/making-the-distro-p3.xml).
Gentoo website ~August 2001 (https://web.archive.org/web/20010924064822/http://gentoo.org:80/)
March 3 2002 (https://web.archive.org/web/20020328041905/http://www.gentoo.org/) public facing movement was easily spotted.
March 31 2002 (https://web.archive.org/web/20020604061411/http://gentoo.org/news/20020331-gentoo.html), 1.0 was finally released!
The huge influx of new users it encouraged caused bandwidth issues for Gentoo (https://web.archive.org/web/20020604025327/http://lists.gentoo.org/pipermail/gentoo-announce/2002-May/000161.html).
August of 2003, 1.4 was released (https://web.archive.org/web/20031207075713/http://www.gentoo.org/news/en/gwn/20030811-newsletter.xml).
Full installation could be completed in under an hour! (https://forums.gentoo.org/posting.php?mode=quote&p=110077&sid=55086929168089cbbb9dcdac1cec05ec)
2004, marked a change (https://web.archive.org/web/20031204134123/http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/releng/index.xml) from the dot releases.
2004.0 released February 28, 2004 (https://web.archive.org/web/20040610161340/http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/releng/release/2004.0/releng/2004.0-press-release.txt).

Despite that work continued. 2004.1 was released (https://web.archive.org/web/20141224104108/http://www.gentoo.org//proj/en/releng/release/2004.2/2004.2-press-release.txt) shortly after that news, dot 2 (https://web.archive.org/web/20040803014434/http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/releng/release/2004.2/2004.2.xml) in July and dot 3 (https://web.archive.org/web/20101223035338/http://www.gentoo.org/news/en/gwn/20041115-newsletter.xml) in November.
September 2005, the first Gentoo Council was elected (https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Council).
Daniel Robbins makes his glorious return (https://lwn.net/Articles/224082/) to the project!

It seems unlikely that AI will use less resources. With dedicated hardware we might not notice (https://www.techradar.com/computing/cpu/what-is-an-npu). It does aim to make the user experience better though.

Gentoo Focus
Jensmander1223 sent some tips to help Dan with his bootloader issue. Dan will continue to keep working on that. Jensmander also sent along the tip to use colordiff (https://github.com/daveewart/colordiff) which can highlight differences when changing config files. We plan to go over a few of these on an upcoming livestream (https://linuxuserspace.show/twitch).
