Song Analysis: An Introduction to Poetry Analysis with Song Lyrics
I created this lesson as way for students to explore the similarities between song lyrics and traditional poetic forms. Students will be engaged in a detailed analysis of the lyrics of their favorite song with the goal for them to inductively conclude that lyrics are, in fact, poetic. Plus, they will be motivated (because they love music) to practice poetic analysis. This is a great introduction to poetry or a standalone critical thinking activity.
