Leave the stem and... | By Gardener's Supply Company | Waxed amaryllis blooms may have come and gone but you can continue to get holiday blooms from your bulb year after year. First, peel off the wax and remove any dead leaves then plant up your bulb with the top third above soil. Water the potted up bulb regularly as you would a houseplant. The bulb will put out new leaves through spring and summer as it replenishes its energy stores. In mid August, stop watering and let the leaves die back naturally. Prune the dead leaves and remove the bulb from the pot Store the bulb somewhere cool, dark, and dry for the next eight to 10 weeks. For holiday blooms, repot your bulb by mid October. Water sparingly at first to avoid shocking the bulb. Once you start to see new growth, increase your watering. In six to 8 weeks, enjoy the show as your amaryllis puts out a new set of stunning blooms.
