Choosing Floor Stains: Top- bottom- 1) Waterborn clear coat  2) Polyurethane 3) DuraSeal Nutmeg Stain 4) Duraseal Provincial Stain 5) Minwax Weathered Oak. Note: DuraSeal Stains are by Minwax. Left side 80 grit sanded, right side 150 gril sanded. The level of sanding effects the stain appearance. At first glance, red oak gives off a slightly rosy hue and has a more pronounced grain pattern, especially when left unstained, whereas white oak has a slightly grayish tone and a more subtle grain pattern.  With the right stain color, you’ll be surprised to see the differences between the two are nearly indistinguishable.
