Georgia is so diverse from mountains in the north to Golden Isles in the South and historical gem, Savannah. Speaking of Golden Isles, my daughter was married at the Cloister on Sea Island. Just peachy! Some of our best friends live in Gainesville and we love to "do" the North GA mountains in autumn with them. Have enjoyed Georgia and its many attractions so many times, it was hard to prioritize my pins!! Georgia IS on my mind---so often.

(1o.14-1o.16) Wanted to throw some clothes in a suitcase, get in the car & just go to see leaves. That meant heading to the mountains. Our son thought this time of year, we needed a lodging reservation. So to keep the impromptu element, he did the reserving at a surprise destination which turned out to be perfect--just 5 miles out of Dillard, GA in Rabun Gap. From there we rambled back roads just like I wanted to do. Delightful fall get-away, just Mike & me.

gorgeous amicalola falls in GA
Drove up Thursday afternoon--into evening. Snow was forecast for area and we were afraid we couldn't make it up the mountain in Amicalola Park to their campground-so we arranged one night at a little campground, Under the Hemlock, very near the entrance to the park. We actually parked in the driveway there because there was electric outlet on a pole our cord would reach and we didn't have to unhook the camper from the truck.

Prater’s is an historic grist mill built in 1855 and was the site of Confederate and Union camps during the Civil War. The mill and surrounding buildings are open for touring Thursday-Saturday weekly, and operates during the country fair each October. Fishing is permitted in Cohulla Creek; A nature trail provides a walkthrough of the area, and, with a donation, the grounds can be reserved for private use.
