The gallery, situated on the banks of the Nan River (about 10 kilometres out of town) is a contemporary space that offers the perfect balance of artistic hippie with modern trendy. I loved the painted trees and details in the garden. The expanse of space to leisurely explore comes with bird songs and a babbling river below. Did I mention the stairs in Da Lat. Honestly, I have never walked up so many stairs in my life. Buildings are tall and narrow; think 3 metres wide and 4 to 6 storeys high. You might order your coffee on the ground floor and walk up a few levels to find a seat. The waterfalls and activities in the surrounding countryside are in deep valleys, accessed by endless stairs. A photographers tour of the abandoned French colonial resort town in Cambodia; Bokor Hill Station. High up in the mountain near Kampot, the Hill Station was built in the early 1920s to provide a respite from the tropical heat. It is a haunting place. The Maze Bar has an unassuming entrance. From the road it looks like a narrow building, a few stories high, covered in vines. Once inside you discover it goes few levels underground and then extends right back to a tiered garden, with beautiful flowers, curved trees and stone stairs leading uphill. Later back in Kampot on the roof top of a skinny building I watched the sunset. Just before the light faded the pastel colours of the houses and roofs illuminated with the last rays of sunshine.
