Both polarization-division multiplexed and parallel solitons were transmitted. The system performance is dominated by the polarization-mode dispersion

Best sensitivity is experimentally demonstrated in 25GHz-grid 5×112-Gb/s PM-QPSK WDM systems

For example, one could assume that the transmitters for all wavelengths are configured independently of each other, that they use the same signal power, or that they use the same modulation format. In this paper, it is shown that these so-called behavioral models have a profound impact on the singlewavelength achievable information rate. This is demonstrated by establishing, for the first time, upper and lower bounds on the maximum achievable rate under various behavioral models, for a rudimentary WDM channel model.

The receiver subsystems of dynamic equalization, phase estimation, and data detection are described with emphasis on the case with differential encoding.

The performance of these methods are evaluated with respect to their accuracy and range. We also experimentally evaluate the CD estimation performance in presence of higher order PMD.

Special emphasis is put on PMD compensation techniques, and their intrinsic limitations. We also propose a new and simple distributed compensation scheme

Soliton control methods and dispersion-managed solitons, which could reduce such interaction, can achieve much better performance.

The benefit of using polarization-multiplexed channels for suppression of crosstalk is reduced for links with even modest PMD
