Do animals grieve?
Evidence suggests that yes, animals grieve the loss of other animals. Pigeons, for example, mate for life and show signs of distress when their partner or one of their chicks dies. My curiosity for this topic was sparked when my admittedly overfed cat caught a pigeon and during the ensuing struggle, a fox swooped out and stole the pigeon right from under his nose - literally.
Do magpies migrate ?
Do magpies migrate? The answer is no as they are non migratory and rarely travel more than about 10km from where they hatched. Unlike a lot of other birds like ducks, geese and bramblings, magpies do not in fact migrate. The question we must ask to figure out why magpies don’t migrate is why other birds do. What makes magpies special? In what way are they not like these other birds, and why is that the case?
can capybaras cry?
Capybaras cry in the sense they have tear ducts to moisturise their eyes, but they do not emotionally cry like humans. What i mean by that is that capybaras, and for that matter most mammals, do not cry when they're sad or happy. That's exclusive to humans and likely has something to do with our more advanced brains. We have more processing power and can feel emotions more thoroughly.
Can a bee survive a sting?
Honeybees are the only species of bee that die after stinging, because their stinger gets stuck. This injures them and means they can’t survive a sting. They can survive stinging other insects, but the thicker flesh of mammals is trickier. Their stingers are barbed meaning they get caught in the flesh and torn out of the bee. This may sound bad already, but it gets worse.
why are zebras black and white?
A zebras black and white colouring helps it maintain an optimum temperature. Black absorbs the most heat, whereas white reflects the most. But why is this important? It’s all well and good to say which colour absorbs more heat and which absorbs less, but we must ask why? Since I’m no physicist, I’ll give you a nice explanation from UCSB science line: “A black object absorbs all wavelengths of light and converts
Are Giraffe Tongues Blue or Purple?
The end of giraffe tongues are dark in colour, ranging from blue and purple even to black. So, long story short, they’re a bit of both! This little evolutionary quirk is quite unbelievable at first. It seems like something pulled straight out of Harry Potter, but we don’t have JK to blame for this. Perhaps even stranger, the backs of giraffe tongues are a lighter pink colour, similar to most other creatures.
Why do hermit crabs queue?
The little arthropods must size up their shells often so hermit crabs queue up in size order and trade shells down the line. This behaviour is quite remarkable, i mean who would expect a little crab to be so polite? If you’re still confused, don’t worry I’ll explain. Hermit crabs occasionally come across a larger shell than their own and, upon inspection, realise it’s TOO big.
Do prosthetic monkey limbs exist?
Experiments involving prosthetic monkey limbs show that apes are able to control prosthetics remotely via a neural implant. These tests involve human prosthetics controlled by monkeys with no missing limbs. This is because monkeys have similar brain structures to humans. Therefore, if a monkeys brain can control these prosthetics remotely, so could a humans. How is this done? In
Are whales smarter than dogs?
Measuring animal intelligence is hard but, based on both physical and behavioural evidence, yes whales are smarter than dogs. Dogs are man’s best friend and anyone with a furry friend of their own will likely defend the intelligence of their companion. Sadly, this doesn’t change the fact that whales are most likely smarter than dogs. There’s a few ways we can show this, and I’ll attempt to cover as many of them as
How do axolotls regenerate limbs?
Axolotls regenerate lost limbs via rapid cell division. The cells of the limb divide and multiply rapidly until a new limb has been formed. This is similar to how we all grow and, to a much lesser extent, heal. When we’re growing up our cells are rapidly dividing so that we can, well, grow. When we cut ourselves, the bleeding is stopped and then our bodies get to work repairing the injury by replacing any dead or
Why do all animals love capybaras?
These large herbivores often live in groups of 10-20, making them highly sociable and causing other animals to, well, LOVE capybaras. And who can blame them? Being herbivores, they have absolutely zero prey and therefore don’t particularly pose a threat to any other species. They are extremely friendly and don’t particularly care what you do around them, as long as they don’t get hurt.
Do blue flamingos exist?
Despite many alleged sightings, images and claims of their existence , blue flamingos do not in fact exist. The idea of blue flamingos is quite magical and awe inspiring, which is probably what lead to the widespread belief that they exist. While it is disappointing that they don’t, flamingo colourings are extremely interesting on their own account.
Could a seagull eat a rabbit whole?
Yes, while the idea seems completely insane, videos can be found showing showing a seagull eat a rabbit whole, but why? As anyone whose ever been to Skegness will tell you, seagulls aren’t the most fussy eaters. From chips and the ice creams of 5 year olds to mice and insects, they’ll eat just about anything. So, if their feeding patterns are so irregular anyway, what’s so special about this example?
