Re-pin from Carrie Chordas - Re-pin from Shawn. "Knowledge begins as a proposition. There are then 3 criteria for this proposition to be considered knowledge: belief, truth, and justification. Once we meet all three of these criteria, we have successfully found/created knowledge. This is important because it is an operational definition used by the course, so it will be brought up more than once on this board. (This is the tripartite definition of knowledge)"
The School of Athens, 1510 - 1511 - Raphael - WikiArt.org
The School of Athens fresco, which is one of Raphael’s most famous works, was completed to decorate the Stanza della Segnatura commission by the Pope. The Stanza was the first set of rooms to be decorated, and this painting was the second in the set of paintings that adorn the walls. Although it was created for a grand room in the Vatican, nearly every one of the figures in the painting can be identified as a Greek philosopher, rather than a religious character.

Edmund Gettier - He destroyed the notion of "justified true belief" - by a means not unlike that of Godel's 'incompleteness'; demonstrating that something can be true and not readily justifiable or apparently justifiable but untrue: I believe my car is there, because I left my car there. But my car is not there, and if I thought it may not be there, I am justified in both views. Gettier is the contemporary David Hume, with a better mind.
