Emma - Allotment gardening for beginners on Instagram: "Let’s talk about raised beds! I love growing in raised beds, they give instant structure and order to my plot and stop me from feeling overwhelmed! I can focus on a couple of beds each time I go. The wood I’ve used is anything from old floorboards to decking boards. It was all free and I’ve just found it in rubbish piles or skips! I always start with a layer of cardboard as it’s great at repressing weeds. Then I top up with as much natural material as I can find. Woodchip, leaf mulch, shredded paper and compost are all good things to whack in. If you use manure, make sure it’s well rotted down (or leave enough time for it to rot down in the bed before planting). Manure is hot and can burn the roots of vulnerable, baby plants. *AD: This post is part of a paid partnership with Bosch Home & Garden. Back in July, we took on an allotment plot after putting our names down on a waiting list last year. I shared a little look around our new allotment soon after, although admittedly, it just looked like one crazy overgrown mess!
