The rest of the edging is coming today along with the sand so I can start the floor in the greenhouse. I’ve decided on one more large raised bed that will be for dahlias next year. It’s definitely moving along now. I hope to get the floor finished this week whilst it’s still cool. Sophie van Gerwen on Instagram: "How to grow dahlias in your garden successfully. I have been planting out my dahlias this weekend and I thought I’d share the process. 1. I pot up the tubers in early April and grow them in pots in the greenhouse to get them started. I pinch out the growing tips of any that don’t throw up more than 3 stems. 2. I prepare their raised bed by adding my own compost in the Autumn. 3. I apply nematodes to this bed before planting them here. Nematodes help to stop them being eaten by slugs and snails. 4. I add bonemeal to the planting hole. I find dahlias enjoy the added phosphorus. 5. This raised bed is in a sunny spot that gets around 7 hours of sunshine a day. 6. Once planted, I add a copper ring which helps deter slugs and snails. 7.
