Or painted cabinets vs stained cabinets. Permanent color will give you the heaviest coverage, but it’ll also give you the most dramatic regrowth line. Demi offers less coverage, but a more subtle & graceful growout. My client here was sick of having to color her regrowth every 4 weeks, but she wasn’t ready to go full-on grey. Our goal was to get her to a level 6 demi base so that she’s able to stretch her regrowth maintenance visits to 6-8 weeks. When I do this, I like to formulate about one shade lighter than the natural base to create a “highlighted” effect, and add warmth since there is NO underlying warmth in the grey we’re applying it over. She was sick of constantly seeing a harsh line of demarcation - which would be noticeable at her hairline in just 2 weeks of being colored! She wanted something that would work WITH her greys, but also expressed that she wasn’t ready to GO grey, so we did something in between. I absolutely LOVE using deposit-only demi’s for grey blending. The translucency embraces & works with the natural grey pattern, and I love how we get ZERO lift, which = NO exposed underlying warmth, which = a much softer & blended grow-out for my clients!

Here’s the formula breakdown:

1️⃣ “pre-blend” Goldwell colorance 30ml 7N, 5ml 7G, 35ml 2% colorance lotion (REGULAR colorance, not cover plus) - I don’t always do this step for grey camouflage, but if my client has areas of heavy grey, this will soften/mute them down a bit.
