Home at Number Fifty Five on Instagram: "Wardrobe reveal! 🤍 We went down the Ikea Pax hack route which I'm sure you're all familiar with but we did it a little differently. We used plain white Ikea doors (Forsand doors) to box in the top and bottom of the wardrobes to create the built in look, this meant that all of the wardrobes and the boxed in areas had the exact same finish. We had big gaps next to some of the wardrobes and instead of having the space wasted by boxing it in we cut down a couple of Ikea Billy Bookcases to create more storage space. We put coving around the top of the wardrobes to complete the built in look and then to finish we added some brass knobs and handles to the doors. We’d made solid doors from 18mm mdf for a pax hack before so knew it could be done. The doors are 37cm wide each and the stiles and rails are 7cm. Then the fun job of adding the hinges and painting. Hinges to match Ikea positions (you can change this if you want) -Top and bottom hole centre are 123mm from the top or bottom of the door -Middle hole centres are 1051 from the top or bottom of the door -Use a 35mm diameter Forstner drill bit 22.5mm from the edge of the door -The 5mm diameter holes are 32mm from the edge and 22.5cm from the centre of the big hole You can buy a hinge jig if you’ve got loads to do. See below process for the bespoke effect: -base built from wood to lift wardrobes off the ground. -skirting is carried along the front of base to conceal it and blend the wardrobes into the room. -doors made from MDF with help from a joiner -pelmet from b&q added to top of wardrobes to make it look like a genuine period feature of the room. - beading/trims added to front of doors to make them look Victorian. - door fronts for drawers made using MDF and beading to match the wardrobe door fronts. -sides of wardrobe didn’t need padding out (unlike master bedroom) as the wardrobe wasn’t within an alcove.
