While Isamu Noguchi first introduced the Akari lamp series in 1951, the waterdrop-shaped 23N wasn’t created until 1968. To this day, Akari lamps are still handmade in Japan of washi paper and bamboo ribbing by original lantern makers Ozeki & Co., Ltd. (est. 1891).
