Misty Mountains

This is definitely the most detailed piece I've produced to date. I like to choose one aspect for each piece that really pushes my comfort and ability, and the mist coming out of the mountains proved quite challenging. I ended up filling in the distant pines darker than intended, then sanding it down to give the misty effect known as 'sfumato'. I feel it works for this piece but I'm excited to improve upon this effect in the near future.

First Snow

I wanted to challenge myself to capture the essence of snow on wood. It proved to be a worthy challenge but I was very happy with the results and am excited to explore this realm further. The difficult aspect of capturing snow on a medium such as pyrography or watercolor is using the subtractive method, where highlights such as snow are preserved from start to finish, challenging the artist to think around the subject rather than adding in highlights to bring them closer to foreground.
