English: Balgowan Balgowan is a small crofting township located in Badenoch. It is unique to find a crofting settlement in such a central location in Scotland as most crofting lands is located in the isles or western seaboard. The open strath about the River Spey has been occupied for probably thousands of years. Balgowan used to be called "Pitgowan", with the prefix "pit-" being Pictish for "portion or share of land". |
