English: Gard Kong Ta or Chinese Market is an ancient market with an age of over 100 years. It was established in B.E. 2420 (1877). It is located along the side of Wang River. It was a very prosperous market since the reign of King Rama V. Since Lam Parng City used to be the center of commerce of the northern part of Thailand. The majority of commercial centers normally existed alongside a large river such as the Wang River. It created business communities such as English, Myanmar, and Chinese people. Chinese is the largest group of merchants operating their businesses here so it became a large Chinese community so people called Kong Ta Market as the Chinese Market. After the importance of the Water Transportation became less this market became stagnant. Later people in the community helped each other to restore and renovate the old buildings and made the area become lively again. It became a magnificent cultural road with its unique identity. |
