English: Marylebone - Wembley Stadium special Cup Final local train passing Neasden Station. View eastward, towards London Marylebone, also Baker Street; ex-Great Central (GC) Marylebone - Sheffield main line via Northolt Junction, High Wycombe and Princes Risborough. The one-way loop line serving the single-platform Wembley Stadium station turned off this line about a mile further on; it was used only when the Stadium was open and was closed on 18/5/68 being superseded by the former Wembley Hill station. The train is working the frequent service of Cup Final trains from Marylebone, which went round the circle and returned to Marylebone without reversal; the locomotive is LMS-type Fairburn 4MT 2-6-4T No. 42256. Further over is the LT Metropolitan/Bakerloo Neasden station on the main line from Baker Street (four-track from Finchley Road to Harrow-on-the Hill (to Rickmansworth from 1959) to Amersham/Aylesbury/Watford/Uxbridge/Stanmore, which was also traversed (from Wembley Park outward) by main-line GC trains from Marylebone. After 1939 when the Bakerloo Line (Jubilee since 1979)to Stanmore was opened, Metropolitan trains ceased to call at Neasden, but from 6/10 until 26/11/40 while Marylebone was isolated by damage to the Lords Tunnel, local GC trains on the Princes Risborough line terminated at a temporary station contructed where the passing train is seen here. The lines on the right are heading for the Neasden (GC) Locomotive Depot and to Neasden Junction on the North & South Western Junction (Brent Junction, Cricklewood - Acton Wells) line: Neasden Sidings are just behind the camera. |
