Summary

edit
Description East end of the Cathedral. Originally the Augustinian Priory of St Mary Overie, it became a Cathedral in 1905. Founded in the early 12th century, it was re-built in the 13th after fire damage, the west front and tower were rebuilt in the 14th. There was considerable restoration during the 19th century by George Gwilt Junior and Robert Wallace, the nave being demolished in 1839-40 with a replacement by Henry Rose, which in turn was replaced by a nave by A W Blomfield in 1890-7.
