Coat of arms of the house Sforza
Description
English: Early w:canting arms of arms of the House Sforza, continued by the non milanese lines of the family. Arms as Counts of w:Cotignola, title granted by Pope John XXIII. Also today the Coat of arms of the commune of w:Cotignola. Canting element: Quince = mela cotogna (Italian) = codogno (Venetian), from Latin cotoneum, from Greek κυδώνιον ("kudonion") (WordSense Online Dictionary (15th May, 2024) URL: https://www.wordsense.eu/codogno/). Pope John XXIII made w:Muzio Attendolo Sforza conte de Codognola, the place of Attendolo's birth. "Muzio attendolo da Cotignola, capostipite degli Sforza".

Text from: Maspoli, Carlo, Arme e imprese viscontee sforzesche Ms. Trivulziano n. 1390, Archivio araldico svizzero : Archivum heraldicum, Band (Jahr): 111 (1997) [1]:
