Summary
[edit]DescriptionFlashComicsAshcan.png |
English: One of the few remaining ashcan copies of Fawcett's proposed Flash Comics, featuring Captain Thunder (later published as Captain Marvel in Whiz Comics number 2). An ashcan copy is a publication produced solely for legal purposes (such as copyright), and not normally intended for distribution. In this case, Fawcett failed to secure the copyright, as All-American had already published a book under the same title.
Some of the artwork was later used in Whiz Comics number 3 (March 1940, page 14). This image is assumed to be in the public domain due to lapsed copyright.

The copyright holder was free to renew the copyright any time during the year 1967, but they did not do so. (All copyright renewals after 1977 can be searched online here.)
