Description
Français : Kannon porteur de lotus (Shô Kannon). Japon, XIXe siècle, fin de la période d'Edo (1603-1862). Bronze. Musée Cernuschi, musée des arts de l'Asie de la ville de Paris. Inv. MC2079.

Exposé lors de l'exposition "Enfers et fantômes d'Asie" au musée du quai Branly à Paris (France) en 2018. Légende dans cette exposition : "Kannon est le nom japonais du bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, "le seigneur qui regarde le monde d'en bas". Il incarne la compassion d'Amida (Amitabha), le Bouddha de l'Ouest, qui accueille les âmes dans son paradis de la Terre pure.

Le bodhisattva porte un lotus en bouton, image de l'espérance de l'Eveil pour tous les êtres. Cette fleur, née de la vase pour s'épanouir immaculée à la surface de l'eau, représente le processus de libération du cycle des renaissances (nirvana)."
